Interim Measures Alarm Fund (IMAF): Could Your Building Qualify for Funded Fire Alarm Installation?

The IMAF is now live

The UK Government launched the Interim Measures Alarm Fund (IMAF) on 1 April 2026 to support the installation of fire alarm systems in residential buildings with identified fire safety risks.

The scheme replaces the Waking Watch Relief Fund and is designed to help building owners and managing agents move away from costly, short-term measures.

Why this matters now

Many buildings are still relying on waking watch – often at significant ongoing cost and with increasing pressure from residents and stakeholders.

The IMAF provides an opportunity to:

  • Replace waking watch with a funded alarm system
  • Improve safety and compliance
  • Reduce long-term operational costs

Who can access the fund?

Eligibility depends on several factors, including:

  • The type and height of the building
  • The nature of fire safety deficiencies
  • Current interim measures in place

Because the scheme is structured and criteria-led, early assessment is key.
