Apartment Block – Temporary Alarm System

Project Outline

To install temporary fire alarms in two apartment blocks in order to facilitate a change in evacuation strategy from stay put to simultaneous evacuation.

Project Challenges

Due to the sensitive nature of the project and the global health crisis, we needed to access each flat once only. Our client was understandably keen to avoid repeat access requests to the apartments. We also needed to complete the works and change the evacuation policy in as short a time as possible, with minimal disturbance to the residents. It is worth mentioning too that we commenced the installation without building plans!

Howler Solution

Working closely with the property manager and the residents, we managed to install four control panels and 262 devices, carry out a soak test and commission the system within two weeks of commencement. The waking watch was removed and we took on the 24/7 monitoring of the system, responding to alerts as necessary.

As the engineers carried out the installation they formatted a building plan using clever yet simple technology. Once the installation was complete we were able to hand over ‘as fitted’ drawings to the clients with no additional disturbance or disruption to the residents.
