Remedial cladding works were being carried out at these blocks of luxury flats in Surrey. A full BS5839 system was required for the duration of works, including fire detectors in every flat, as the evacuation strategy was changed from stay-put to simultaneous evacuation.
As all eight residential blocks were occupied, our main challenge was to ensure we could access every flat to install the detectors required within the short time frame, in order to keep the occupants safe, yet minimize disturbance for the residents.
We liaised with residents to ensure we accessed their flat at the most convenient time: our engineers were prepared to go in early before the occupier left for work, or late when they got back in after a long day. We collaborated with the principal contractor (St James) and the managing agent to ensure all flats were accessed and the work completed in as compressed a time as possible.
